Purpose
February 5, 2006 by MilBlogger
The 2006 Milblog Conference will take place in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 22, 2006. The conference is designed to bring milbloggers together for one full day of interesting discussion on topics associated with milblogging. We will explore the history of milblogs, as well as what the future may hold for this medium which the military community is using to tell their stories.
The milblog community is diverse, and we intend to showcase the full spectrum of milblogs, including those who have blogged from theater, veteran members of the armed forces, spouses and parents.
Registration for the conference is free of charge. Due to seating limitations, there are only 300 seats available for this event. Milbloggers and/or members of the military community will be allowed to pre-register. There are 150 seats reserved for the military community.
Pre-registration will begin on February 8 and continue through midnight February 15. Any slots not filled by milbloggers will be given to the general public. Registration for the public will begin on February 16. All registrations are first-come, first-serve.
Attire is casual.
This conference is not sponsored, sanctioned, censored by, or in any way affiliated with the Department of Defense.

Would it not be better to invite the best milbloggers, see who will commit, and then open registration. Having it first come, first served means that you're likely to get a less-than-stellar cast.

The conference is for all milbloggers, not just the top tier. We want everyone to have an equal shot at attending, and want to showcase the diversity of the milblog community.

Will milblogs by soldiers and veterans of OIF who are critical of the war be allowed to participate? (Because looking at your list of participants, I dont see any)

It appears to be another propaganda event rather than a informational event.
The only "stories" that will be allowed here will be stories that support the Bush administration's policy in Iraq.
The "first come-first serve" is mearly a method used to keep out bloggers critical of the war in Iraq. No matter whom comes first, critical bloggers will be kept out or down to a minimum number.
Then of course the whole thing will be billed as "see how the military, even down to the lowest levels, are so in favor of the war".

As far as I know, this conference is open to anyone and everyone associated with milblogging, or the military. I have not received any notice that requires me to keep my opinions - positive OR negative with regard to the GWOT/the Bush administration/etc. - in check.
Not everything is a conspiracy. Good grief.

I passed the information on to him. He's not sure he'll be able to make it.

This conference is about the military community, the families that comprise it & the people it serves. . .operating in the trenches of open communications where connections may be enhanced.
The only propoganda detected so far has come from you, Anomymous . While trying to slant the purpose of this Military blogger conference, try examining the purpose of the military and the role WE ALL play in its fate.
There are no politics in the trenches Anonymous. Bossed by the constitution, serving citizens & their representation, soldiers kill & die not for politics, but for the soldier next to them. Make your target the choices you and your fellow voters have made, not the people who serve them.

April 1, 2006 - Conference Censorship

The reason that people are suspicous is that many participating are active duty military. They are PRECLUDED by the UCMJ to identify themselves as military then publicly disagree with the action in Iraq. Having a LTC, for example, "moderate" a panel discussion on the "war in Iraq" is laughable.
This is a sham and one that I believe is more designed to sell "My War..." books rather than have real detailed and honest discussion on the issues of Iraq.

April 15, 2006 - only applies to commissioned officers

The bit where an active duty member cannot talk about negative issues surrounding the military only applies to commissioned officers.
Enlisted are free to complain however they want :)

Not true.. you have no idea how NOT TRUE that statement is. No soldier is free to complain... outside of the company of other soldiers.
